The Whisper-Quiet Battery Glazer
To cut energy costs, some states are now having their government offices and other facilities cleaned during the day. This allows the entire building to be shut down for the evening, which has been surprisingly effective at cutting power costs for heating and air-conditioning along with lighting.
However, the process of switching from night cleaning to day cleaning does pose some problems. One of the biggest concerns is noise. Some studies have found that the use of vacuum cleaners and floor care equipment can be very distracting to building occupants when used during the day. Further, the electrical cords to power these machines have posed serious safety concerns in certain facilities, and government locations have reported accidents with staff members tripping over cords.
To meet these day cleaning challenges, one government office turned to battery-powered cleaning equipment. With battery powered machines, at least there are no cords to trip over, eliminating that safety issue. However, battery-powered cleaning equipment is still in its infancy. Some machines have proven to be underpowered and bulky to use. They can also have very short run times, negatively impacting worker productivity, and charging the equipment can take several hours.
Another issue: the batteries used on some cleaning machines are not considered eco-friendly.
However, this government office did find one battery-powered floor machine that was not encumbered with all of these limitations. Manufactured by Tornado Industries®, the BR 17 Glazer is surprisingly small and easy to use, has a two-hour run time before it needs charging, and uses a gel battery system that is safer for the user and the environment. In addition, all of the charging essentials are built into the machine.
As to performance, the BR 17 Glazer is rated at 1500 rpm, fast enough to produce a high-gloss shine on most types of flooring, and it's whisper quiet. At just 59 decibels, the machine can be used in and around building occupants without causing a disturbance. In fact, this government office reports that some office staffers did not even know the machine was being used because it produces such a hushed tone.
But there was an added plus to the BR 17 Glazer as well. Like most government facilities, this location was transferring not only to day cleaning but to Green cleaning as well. The BR 17 Glazer has an integrated dust control system that collects and traps floor dust and soils while the machine is being used. This protects indoor air quality making the machine a key component in Green cleaning.
Day cleaning systems have not worked in every setting. One of the key problems has always been that building occupants simply do not want their office areas cleaned while they are using the office. However, using equipment such as the BR 17 Glazer, which is quiet, effective, and cordless, is making day cleaning more acceptable, in this government facility and scores more.
